The roof on your home is important for a lot of reasons, including keeping the weather out of your living room. The style of the roof, the material used on it, and the way it is installed are all important parts of putting a new roof on your home. There are a lot of different materials available on the market, so choosing one that best suits your home might take a little work. If you do not care for the traditional materials, there are other options for you. You just have to pick the one you like.

Traditional Roofing

It is important to understand all the options for your roof when installing a new one in your home. The traditional asphalt shingles are still the most commonly used material on the market, but they may not be appealing to everyone. In fact, some people don't like them at all. They are the most common that you will see, and they have a 20- to 30-year lifespan, so until there is a better option, they will probably continue to be the most popular solution. They are offered in many different color options and can be placed in a pattern to create a very unique look on the roof of your home if you want to spice things up a bit in your neighborhood.

Metal Roofing

Another great option is metal roofing panels. These panels come in 4x8, 4x12, and even 4x16 sheets that can be positioned in one long section or cut down to fit the area you need. The metal is sharp and you have to be careful working with it, but it is a durable material. Often the steel used is galvanized to prevent rust, and you can also opt for a painted metal that is very durable and will give you the option to match or contrast the siding on your home. If you have never worked with metal roofing, it is a good idea to hire a contractor to install it. The sheets are heavy and sharp, so getting them to the room can be difficult and even a small error could result in an injury or damage to the roof and material you are placing on it.

Foam Roofing

Another option is to have your roof sprayed with foam. It is true, spray foam roofing is becoming more common. The roof is first covered with a lightweight substrate then a cover board made of foam is placed on the roof. Once that is in place, the roof is sprayed with the foam. The foam is coated with a primer and base color after it is dry, and then a reflective layer is applied to that. One roof is lightweight and durable, and if it is damaged, repairing it is a simple matter of recoating the damaged area with new foam to fill in the damage.
